Terms of Use

Last updated:

These terms cover the Yali app for iPhone and Android, and this website, yali.kids, both published by Yitzchaki (“we”, “us”). Like the privacy policy, they are written to be read by a parent, so they say what actually happens.

Using Yali means accepting these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app — and if you have paid for a subscription you no longer want under them, the refund routes in section 6 are the App Store’s and Google Play’s, not ours.

The short version

Topic In short
Who this is for An adult sets Yali up. The app is used by a child aged 2–9+ who is building foundational skills, with an adult responsible for the account that pays.
What is free The beginning of every subject, in every language. Permanently. No trial, no expiry, no ads.
What a subscription buys The rest of the teaching: every subject to its end, in every language you have chosen, and up to five profiles instead of three.
How it renews Automatically, every year or every month, until you cancel.
How to cancel In your App Store or Google Play account, any time.
What happens if you stop Everything your child has already reached stays playable. New material stops arriving. Nothing is deleted.
Who takes the payment Apple or Google. We never see your card, and we hold no account of yours.

1. Who may use Yali

Yali is made for children, and the agreement is with the adult, not the child. You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live — 18 in most places — and you confirm that you are the parent or guardian of the child using the app, or that you have their permission.

There is no account, no login and no password. Yali holds what it needs on the phone itself. That is a deliberate design choice and it has a consequence worth knowing: there is nothing for us to recover for you, because there is nothing we hold.

2. What the free version is

Every subject is free to a point, and the point is the same in every language: the first 12 letters and their sounds, the numbers one to five, four colors, four shapes, the fruits and vegetables among the words, and four times on the clock. In the Parent Zone, What Yali can teach shows which subjects are free to begin, and the Parent Zone tells you when a subject’s free part is finished. The boundary is a position in the teaching, not a time limit.

The free version does not expire, does not degrade and carries no advertising. There is no trial period, because there is nothing to trial: what is free is free permanently.

Nothing about money is ever shown to the child. No price, no lock, no prompt to ask a grown-up. When the free part of a subject is finished, new material simply stops arriving and the child goes on playing what they have.

3. What a subscription is

A subscription unlocks the rest of the teaching for every profile on the phone: every subject to its end, in every language you have chosen to teach, with Yali checking what your child already knows across the whole subject rather than only its free part. It also raises the number of profiles from three to five. The profile made for you during setup counts as one of them, and you can delete it in the Parent Zone.

  • Two plans. One year or one month. The price of each is shown in the app before you buy, in your own currency, and it comes from the App Store or Google Play rather than from us.
  • It renews automatically at the end of each period — every year for the annual plan, every month for the monthly one — and it goes on renewing until you cancel it.
  • You are charged by Apple or Google, through the account you already use for apps, at the price shown at the time of purchase.
  • Prices can change. If we change one, the stores tell you before the change takes effect on your subscription, and you can cancel if you would rather not continue. A price change never applies to a period you have already paid for.

4. Cancelling, and what happens then

Cancel in your App Store or Google Play account, any time. It cannot be done inside Yali, because the subscription is held by the store rather than by us — the app points you to the right place.

Cancelling stops the next charge. You keep everything you have paid for until the end of the period you are in.

When a subscription ends:

  • Everything your child has already reached stays playable, forever, and goes on appearing in practice. This is a promise about the product’s design and not a courtesy.
  • New material stops arriving, in exactly the way it does for a household that never subscribed.
  • Nothing is deleted. Progress, profiles and records are all kept on the phone. If you subscribe again later, everything continues from where it was.
  • Profiles beyond the free three are paused rather than removed — their records are untouched and they come back when a subscription does.

5. Restoring a purchase

If you reinstall Yali, change phone, or install it on a second device signed in to the same store account, use Restore a subscription in the Parent Zone. That asks the store what your account owns and re-enables it.

A subscription belongs to the store account that bought it, on that store. A purchase made on Google Play cannot be restored on an iPhone, and the reverse is equally true. That is the stores’ rule, not ours, and no account of ours could change it.

6. Refunds

Refunds are handled by whoever took the payment, which is never us:

  • Apple — request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • Google Play — request one through Google Play’s help pages, or your order history.

Both stores apply their own rules, and both sometimes refund when they are not obliged to. Where the law where you live gives you a right to cancel a digital purchase, that right stands regardless of anything on this page.

7. What you may not do

Yali is licensed to you for your family’s personal use. You may not resell it, rent it, charge other people for access, or use it commercially — in a nursery, a school or a clinic — without a separate agreement with us. Write to us if you want to; the answer is not automatically no.

You may not take the app apart, extract its content — the recordings, the artwork, the teaching sequence — or build something from it. The content is ours or licensed to us.

8. What Yali is not

Yali teaches. It does not diagnose.

It is not an assessment, a diagnostic instrument, or a substitute for a professional opinion. What the Parent Zone shows you is a record of what your child has done in the app, which is a useful thing to look at and not a statement about your child’s development. If you are worried about how your child is learning, talk to someone qualified to answer it — a teacher, a doctor, a speech and language therapist. Nothing in the app should replace that conversation, and nothing in it should delay one.

9. The app, as it is

We work hard to make Yali correct, calm and reliable, and we do not promise that it is perfect. It is provided as it is. We do not guarantee that it is free of errors, that it will suit a particular child, or that it will always be available.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud — and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected by anything on this page.

Where we are liable despite the above, our liability is limited to what you have paid for Yali in the twelve months before the problem arose.

10. Changes to the app, and to these terms

Yali changes. Subjects are added, lessons are improved, and occasionally something is removed because it was not working. What will not change without notice is what your subscription buys or what these terms say. If we change either in a way that matters to you, we will update this page, change the date at the top, and say so in the app.

11. If we stop

If Yali is ever discontinued, we will say so before it happens, stop taking new subscriptions, and let running ones finish rather than cutting them short. The app on your phone keeps working as long as your phone keeps running it — it depends on no server of ours.

12. Law, and where a dispute goes

These terms are governed by the laws of Israel, and the courts of Tel Aviv-Yafo have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and it does not stop you bringing a claim in your local courts where those laws give you that right.

13. Contact

Write to support@yali.kids about anything on this page, including your subscription. Privacy questions go to privacy@yali.kids, as the privacy policy says.

Writing to us never signs you up for anything: we will answer what you asked, and if we ever want to send news about Yali, we will ask you separately.
